It all started with a grandmother’s closely-guarded recipe for delicious tapa that was served at home. Handed down from one generation to the next, this recipe somehow found its way into the hands of two of the family´s most enterprising members. And the rest, as they say, is history.
The formula for this tapa has been parlayed into a successful chain of Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) offering not one, but, several methods of cooking tapa to satisfy different palates. While tapa is undoubtedly the attracting factor in this QSR, there are other Filipino favorites available. But that´s getting ahead of our tapa king story.
In 1987 the first tapa king “hole in the wall” store was born in Gallardo St., Makati. The “thinking” that conceptualized tapa king was to give customers an alternative. Fast food chains were serving hamburger sandwiches, hot dogs and pizzas. tapa king would be the alternative for those who wanted rice – the Filipino staple food. The “thinking” succeeded in growing that small store in Gallardo Street into more tapa king stores in different locations with varied sizes. Through the years, tapa king opened more stores in Metro Manila, Cebu, Pampanga, Bicol, Pangasinan, Laguna … and recently its first overseas store in Singapore.
