Eric was born and raised in the Greeley, CO area where his extended family still lives and farms today. He attended AIMS Community College in Greeley and received an architectural degree. He remained in northern Colorado for several years after college, working for Pepsi Co. and Hewlett Packard, before moving to Colorado Springs in the late 90s. He worked as a sales and marketing executive for the past 14 years, and is currently a share holder and board member of Warranty Title in Colorado Springs.
Sarah was born in Iowa and had the opportunity to live in many different states while growing up. She attended Dordt College in Iowa and received a degree in social work. She worked as a nursing home social worker in Texas after college before moving to Gunnison, Colorado, to work for the school district administration and Western State College. She moved to Colorado Springs in 2001 to take a job with Focus on the Family where she continues to work today.
Eric and Sarah married in 2004, and their daughter Selah was born two years later. Soon after Selah’s birth, it was discovered that Eric had kidney failure. They are thankful for the gift of life that his sister Sheila gave in donating her kidney. Thane joined the family in late 2009. As a family, the Helus’s are active in their community and church, and they enjoy the many outdoor activities that living in Colorado affords.
