Mark Mele and Deven Klein are co-founders of Athena Learning Centers. Mark is the CEO and Deven is the COO, and General Counsel. They started Athena Learning Centers in October 2011. Deven worked for Kumon North America, Inc. for almost 16 years. While at Kumon, he started the Legal Department from scratch and served as VP and Corporate Counsel for 10 years. He then led the Franchise Recruitment and Development Department at Kumon for 5 years while serving on the Executive Management Team. After leaving Kumon, Deven advised franchise systems as a trusted legal and business advisor.
Mark’s career in franchising spans 30 years, 8 of which were in supplemental education franchising with Kumon North America, Inc., Huntington Learning Centers and Oxford Learning. Mark has also worked with notable franchise brands such as Century 21 Real Estate Corporation and Country Inns & Suites by Carlson. His strategic approach to expanding a franchise brand is reflected in his work as Vice President of Franchise Development of Kumon North America, Inc., where his leadership resulted in the opening of over 500 new franchised Kumon learning centers in 4 years.
