St. Louis Tan Company opened its doors in February 1994 with two average-sized salons. Due to the overwhelming response to the image, training and customer service of the salons, St. Louis Tan Company was able to develop its first superstore salon by the end of 1994.

Additional traffic, sales and profits enabled St. Louis Tan Company to grow to over 15 salons by the end of 2000. The demand for the superstore concept in St. Louis and the surrounding area exploded. In response to high customer traffic counts, growing sales per salon and name recognition in 2001, St. Louis Tan Company chose to expand outside the St. Louis market place. Thus, a new company formed to focus on franchising and franchisee support. St. Louis Tan Company became The TAN Company®.

Currently, The TAN Company® has over 65 locations in 11 states with additional locations under development. With Area Development, Multi-Unit and Single-Unit Agreements in place, The TAN Company® has over 60 locations committed in 5 additional states.

With this history of success, the future of The TAN Company® is bright.

There are both physiological and psychological reasons to tan. Most people tan in order to obtain the cosmetic value of darker skin, which, in turn may heighten their mood and self-esteem. Other people may tan for certain medical reasons, such as psoriasis, and do so under a doctor's care.

Investment

Your investment will depend on several variables. The number of rooms, the number of beds and the square footage of the location will be the main determining factors. Additional expenses will include the cost of furniture, fixtures, equipment, leasehold improvements (i.e., electrical and HVAC upgrades) and final design of the salon.


Financing

Once the decision is made to join The TAN Company® team, your next step to success is the financing. Bank lenders are statistically more likely to finance a franchise over a private independent start-up business. The financing can be through a Small Business Administration (SBA) lender, a commercial banker or an equipment lease vendor. The TAN Company® will help in the preparation of an industry business plan, provide community demographics, and help with the completion of all loan documents.
