Initial investment required.

Based upon previous experience, it is estimated that the required investment is likely to range from approximately $194,000 to $350,000 depending on the size of store and your location in Canada. This is only a guideline and should not be relied upon to determine the investment required in specific cases. The continuing royalty is currently four (4) percent of gross sales excluding GST/HST and PST collected.

Great Canadian Dollar Store will advise on location, lease negotiation, and store layout. Many franchises offer sites that the franchise company has selected. In most cases they will also insist on controlling the main lease and you effectively become a sub-lessee to your franchisor. The merits of this can be debated in business and ethical terms but fundamentally it reduces the control that a franchisee has over his or her business.

In addition, the franchise fees associated with these "turn-key" franchises are significantly higher than ours are. We will sign the lease only when other means of securing a prime location are unavailable to us. We do not derive any revenues from the leases of our franchise members - we are not a leasing company. Our aim is to support Great Canadian Dollar Store franchise members by maintaining reasonable royalty and franchisee fees that allow us to provide services that our franchise members need. We provide support without infringing on functions that a business owner needs to have responsibility for.

Great Canadian Dollar Store is proud to support the CH.I.L.D. Foundation (Children with Intestinal and Liver Disorders) which raises money to fund pediatric care and research to find a cure for Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, and liver disorders. Franchise members, customers, suppliers and the home office have worked together to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the CH.I.L.D. Foundation of Canada.
