Phat is a slang word derived from the rap idiom of hip hop culture to mean 'sexy or cool'. We believe this is a brand and business that is both of these!
The idea was conceived by Laura Clark who was looking for a business idea that could fit around her lifestyle as a working mum. Having worked in the restaurant and catering industry all her career, she wanted a business of her own to set up and operate. Supported by her husband, Paul, who has been in franchising for the past fifteen years, they have developed a ready-made business that can be operated by franchisees working from home. Central to the brand's positioning is the commitment to providing 'homemade' and high quality products.
At the heart of this business are our award winning traditional, hand crimped, Cornish pasties from Newquay, Cornwall. These pasties are delivered to you frozen each week and you simply bake them off. Using our proprietary oven system, we are able to bake over 12 varieties of Cornish pasties and savoury items on the Phat Van each day. To compliment the Phat Pasty range we make fresh homemade Phin sandwiches, baguettes, salads and soups, each created to our own recipes and packaged in the Phat Pasty packaging… we really do have something for everyone.
We have developed an affordable package to cover everything that is required in setting up your Phat Pasty business. Total set up costs should be approximately £22,500 (plus Vat), this including your Franchise Fee, Franchise Package, initial van deposit, key equipment, legal costs and initial stock. The Phat Van can be leased over a 5 year period, making this a fantastic, low cost franchise.
We do not believe in franchisees paying percentage royalties and prefer a simple fixed weekly fee to cover the ongoing use of the Phat Pasty brand, operational support and a contribution to corporate marketing - our current Management Services Fee and Marketing Levy is just £150 per week (per vehicle operated).

The Phat Van has been developed for the exclusive use of our franchisees – everyone who sees the Phat Van loves the great styling and instantly recognizes the brand. Operating from Monday – Friday and to a set routine from 9am – 1:30pm each day, we are able to bring a fabulous, ‘funky’ operation to the workplace – our customers just can’t get enough of us!
The Phat Van can also be used at weekends to cater for events, from football tournaments, village fetes and private parties. It really is a versatile business that allows franchisees to develop their business to suit their circumstances.
The Phat Van is available to franchisees to lease over a 5 year period (subject to status), thus allowing franchisees to pay for the vehicle as they go along and reducing their capital outlay.
The unique brand, marketing materials and the specially developed Phat Van allow franchisees to grow their own business, built around local offices, industrial parks and local events.
